Game vs. Dodgers 5/25/2004

We were very proud of the way the team stuck together. We fielded very well, except for the fifth and the last inning. We think the fielding problems were just a lack of concentration not a lack of ability. Officially, we won that game as the score reverted to last completed inning.

Individual highlights include:

  • Lindsay Bickleman going three for four, with a run scored and an RBI.

  • Regina Paolucci going two for four with a run scored and an RBI, she hit the ball hard all four times -- but good fielding kept her of the base twice.

  • Martina Vargas got on base all four times she was up, scoring once and driving in a run.

  • Jenny Rose Bridgens was two for three, with three runs scored, two RBI's and two stolen bases.

  • Rachael Bridgens went two for two with a double and four RBI's.

  • Maggie Lowe gave us another fine pitching performance, and at the plate Maggie was three for three with a double, a run scored, two RBI's and a stolen base.

  • The game ball goes to Cordelia Vargas for getting on base all four times, with her first two hits of the year, scoring three runs. She walked two times to increase her lead in that category to ten for the year. Cordelia also got her first stolen base.

Good job, Cordelia!

Good job, girls!

Game vs. Dodgers 5/23/2004

We came up short on this one, but it wasn't because of effort. We had one bad inning in the field, which was not bad considering many of you were playing new positions. Although we only scored three runs, we did hit the ball hard often, but unfortunately right at someone.

Kudos (from memory):

  • Laura -- pitched a great game, with around 10 strikeouts.

  • Jenny Rose -- hit a double

  • Amanda -- great hustle running the bases and catching in the heat

  • Martina and Ariel -- filling in at catcher when the team needed them to

  • Nicole and Maggie T. -- coming up from the Majors to fill in so that we could field 10

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone or something. Again, you all played hard and have nothing to be ashamed of for this game.

See you on Tuesday night,

Mr. T.

Game vs. Methacton 5/22/2004

Well...what can I say. What a GREAT game!

After a very slow start, you all picked up your games, hung in there, and won! We came into the last inning behind by one run and scored two runs with two outs.

I'm going on memory here (I don't have the scorebook) so please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone. These things stand out in my mind:

  • Regina -- a good effort, pitched three innings, hit the ball very well (but was a bit unlucky to hit right at someone)

  • Rachael -- had a monster double

  • Maggie -- pitched three strong innings, and sacrificed her knees (again) to make a crucial out at home in the late innings

  • Amanda -- made a great play in the late innings on a slow roller in front of home plate and caught the entire game in extreme heat

  • Amy -- great hustle in the last inning to get to first after she struckout with two outs, allowing the game to continue and for us to score the two runs

  • Martina -- great catch in the last inning on a hard hit ball that she quickly threw to first for a double play. If this ball gets by, the game is tied with a runner on second or third with only one out.

Once again, a great effort from the third inning on, after Mr. B's "you're playing like crap" speech! :)

We're proud of you. See you on Sunday.

Game vs. Angels 5/15/2004

Well...not much to say about this one. I don't know if the big rain drops or the hot weather bothered us the first two innings, but we just didn't seem to be in the game mentally. One thing to remember is to always hustle after the ball; don't assume one of your teammates is going to get it. Also remember that softball is 80% mental and 40% physical. :)

On a positive note, after the two-inning debacle was over, we played the Angels evenly.

We won't dwell on this game. I am very confident we will do great in tonight's game.

These are my opinions. Mr. B may add more later.

See you,

Mr. T

Game vs. Yankees 5/8/2004

Right off the top major kudos and the game ball to Maggie; on base three out of four times and scoring two runs while pitching and only walking two batters with a horrible gash in her knee that she received while blocking the plate on a play at home in the first inning.

We have become an offensive machine:

  • Amanda gets top billing; out of the second spot going four for four and scoring two runs.

  • Rachael three out of four and scoring two runs and getting a defensive star for making two great plays including an unassisted double-play.

  • Jenny Rose coming out of a semi-slump getting on base three out of four times with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases.

  • Ariel continued her hot streak with two more hits with a run scored.

  • Martina with a clutch base hit driving in a couple of runs.

Great victory; defense was solid behind Maggie's great pitching!!!

We are very proud of the way this team plays and acts like a team. :)

Game vs. Reds 5/2/2004

We lost, but we were a victim of bad umpiring! You will never hear us say this again, EVER!!!

Offensive heros were:

  • Laura on base three out of four times scoring three runs.

  • Lindsey on base all four times, stealing two bases and scoring once.

  • Kiersten coming in to pitch in the seventh inning and bailing us out of a tight jam by throwing only one ball (which was probably a strike) and the rest strikes.

  • Amanda on base all four times, with two runs scored, three stolen bases and a triple.

This is a game we would just like to forget as a team, although we fought hard against two opponents.

Game vs. Dodgers 5/1/2004

It was a defensive struggle from the beginning, with Maggie pitching a very good game.

Hitting highlights:

  • Kierstan with two hits and scoring a run.

  • Ariel with two hits and scoring a run.

  • Martina with two hits and a stolen base.

  • Cordelia with two walks and a run scored.

Thank goodness for the fifth inning when we scored all of our runs! It was a fine defensive effort for our second win.
